THE NEW DVD - COMBAT by NATANIËL
Nataniël's acclaimed stage production, COMBAT, was filmed live during March 2011 at the Theatre Of Marcellus, Emperors Palace. Inspired by the Mark Twain phrase, “Clothes make the man.”, Combat both investigates and celebrates the uniform. For centuries people have been feared or admired for their uniforms, from emperors to soldiers, from church leaders to the police, doctors, nurses, servants, butlers, chauffeurs, firemen and sailors. With comedy, fantasy, satire, monologues in both English and Afrikaans and a collection of original songs, Nataniël takes a look at uniforms, old and new, the power, the cruelty, corruption, sexual attraction, beauty, temptation and fascination with them. From ancient Romans to Third World Dictators, from the corporate world to the strip club, nothing seems to make a greater impact than the appearance of a uniform! Winner of Naledi Awards: Best Costumes, Best Male Performer
This first-ever DVD release of a live performance by Nataniël features his acclaimed stage production, CATHEDRAL, filmed from 18 to 21 March 2010 at the Theatre of Marcellus, Emperors Palace. Since the beginning of civilization, man has been obsessed with the creation of gigantic buildings, structures that intimidate, fascinate and obliterate. Entire generations spent their lives building cathedrals without ever seeing them completed. Engineers, architects and artists devoted their talent and time to the construction of some of the world’s largest and most admired buildings, only to be judged or driven from them. Nataniël transports his audience on a journey through time, taking a unique look at this age-old phenomenon of mankind being captured, seduced, threatened and destroyed by its own creations. With original music ranging from pop, rock and soul to old-world torch songs and jazz, the show also includes a collection of typical Nataniël monologues in both English and Afrikaans. Fantastical, hysterical, honest, different, truly funny and always entertaining, this is the world according to Nataniël. |
